Current Workshop Offerings Schedule (Spring 2012)

General Information
The center's training offerings consist of: On Campus Face-to-Face Workshops, Online Workshops, Know-How Guides and Webinars from external sources. Most workshops are small and individualized to fit the specific needs of faculty participants and their students' needs. Many face-to-face workshops are offered several times each semester in different days/times to cater to the schedule of the faculty as much as possible.

Types of Workshops
Four types of workshops are offered at the ITDC:

1. On campus face-to-face workshops

Face-to-face workshops are typically offered several times each semester on both campuses in different days/times to allow for optimum faculty attendance. All the workshops in this category are product-oriented; faculty are encouraged to integrate instructional products they develop in the workshops into their class activities and assess the product’s effectiveness and impact on student success. Faculty are invited to follow up on workshops’ components with ITDC team members in order to improve their instructional products, based on evidence they observed in the class. Flex credit is granted for faculty who attend any of these workshops.

2. Online Workshops

These workshops are available online 24/7 for faculty to access and implement in their classes on their own. A few of these workshops (where log-in is required and performance is tracked) grant flex credit for faculty. Faculty members are invited to work with ITDC team members to integrate the workshop topics in their classes. Several online workshops address legal compliance matters and support class management and administration needs.

3. Know-How Guides

Know-How guides are typically step-by-step tutorials for frequently needed technological tasks related to teaching and learning processes. Faculty may access the guides online 24/7 and follow the steps on their computer to perform the task at hand. The ITDC training offerings are product-oriented and promote student-centered learning and teaching.

4. Webinars

Webinars are online seminars offered by a variety of external educational sources (outside LBCC). They are typically an hour long. They usually require signing up ahead of time and, sometimes, running a "Wizard" to test if the trainee’s computer is ready to run them. They may require the use of a phone or headphones for the audio portion. Webinars  are sometimes presented at the Instructional Technology Development Centers on or both campuses and faculty can view them together.
