LBCC Faculty experiences teaming up with the ITDC

I encourage all of you to explore how to reach more students through the exciting world of technology. ITDC has a real knack for making what might seem intimidating to some, manageable and understandable. I have discovered, as a result, a new love for teaching in an online environment. ITDC was extremely helpful in guiding me through the process of teaching online. They provided clear information as to what to expect from students, how to retain and communicate with them effectively, how to ensure that they are participating in class activities and how to make the e-learning environment as vital and exciting as a real classroom.
Timothy Durkovic, Music

With the help of the ITDC team, I created two online courses that have worked beautifully. Putting a Web site together is no easy task, but the team offered suggestions, gave templates, and created my interactive portions on time. My English 41 online, in particular, has turned out to be a wonderful experience; this course became multi-layered, incorporating discussion, links, study guides, practice quizzes, and slide shows with audio.  The feedback from students was extremely positive, and I had better enrollment and retention in the online course.
Dr. Nicole Glick, English

The ITDC staff has helped us incorporate many different teaching and learning tools into our online classes. Their expertise in developing practice assignments, tutorials, surveys, and critical thinking exercises have greatly improved our classes. Everyone has been wonderful to work with.
Gene Carbonaro, CAOT

When I needed help recording a sound track for the PowerPoint presentations supporting my online ESL 33 writing class, the ITDC was there for me. They set me up with right recording equipment, showed me how to compress the files, and uploaded them to my Web site. With their help, the whole process was easy and stress free. I just needed to make an appointment and bring in my material.
Dennis Miller, ESL

In my Introduction to International Business course, students use a business simulation program we created at the ITDC to work through the challenges of conducting business in other countries.  That program consistently allows the students to engage interactively with real-world business situations. I receive very positive feedback from students on my online courses and the more creative educational technology tools I have created in conjunction with the ITDC.
Karen Faulkner, International Business/Marketing

What started off as a curiosity regarding online teaching and learning grew into a total change in the way I view the future of education. This change would not have been possible without the technology team at ITDC, which helped me to improvise and fine tune the way I deliver lectures and lesson plans on my Web sites.
The sensibility of having a Web page is not restricted to online classes; it enhances all the classes I teach.
J-son Ong, English

ITDC provides me with wealth of knowledge about different instructional technology that can be implemented in my courses. Workshops that I’ve attended through ITDC have given me inspiration and access to tools to add interactivity in my online courses through activities such as discussion forums, blogs and providing video content. Also, my online students enjoy the ITDC’s e-learning environment, e-ZLRN, and find it very easy to navigate.
Dena Laney, Library

Using the ITDC’s e-Zgrade tool, I have developed online grades for my distance learners and on-campus students. This is a great way for any student to stay up-to-date with their personal progress. The e-Zgrade feature not only shows students their results for each assignment, but it also allows me to add notes or questions the student can see along with the grade. It saves time at the end of the semester too, when the e-Zgrades are “good to go”!
Susan Cully, CAOT

I work in collaboration with the ITDC team faculty for all my e-courses needs, from beginning to end of the course development.  They helped me stay apprised of new instructional technologies so I never felt alone in the continued development of my course.
Elvia Mieras, Food and Nutrition

The staff at the ITDC has worked with me to create several online activities that help my students grasp some of the more difficult concepts in Real Estate Principles.  While many of the activities were created using one of the ITDC templates as a base, the ITDC staff worked with me to customize the activities, in some cases well beyond the basics presented in the templates.  I offer these activities both in the distance learning course and for the on-campus web-enhanced course, and the students who practice with these activities consistently comment that the activities enhance their learning.
The ITDC staff has also helped me with placing short web lectures and web-based copies of the lecture presentations on my course web sites.  Most of my students in the on-campus courses use the lecture notes and outlines during the lectures, which allows them to write less and listen more.

Jim Cunningham, Real Estate

What I learned has inspired me to create PowerPoint projects to enhance my classroom teaching.  With the ITDC support I now incorporate many tools in my presentations such as Excel charts, photo slide shows, and videos.
Christina Guillen, English

The Distance Learning team has been absolutely wonderful to work with! As a new instructor at LBCC, I wasn't sure how to go about creating my first online class. The instruction and support I have received from the DL and ITDC team has been beyond expectation, and I know that much of my success as an online instructor will be due to their tremendous efforts. I look forward to working with them well into the future.

I've been working with the FRC/Distance Learning Program for years. Amit has a wonderful staff who are always working on ways to improve my online teaching experience.
Gene Carbonaro

Your expertise and willingness to teach and reteach far transcend my personal growth because the product affects the education of so many students. When it comes to the FRC, I start with projects; I finish with friends. Thank you, all.

Thank you for your consistently professional and friendly support in putting together my online logic course. It has been a rewarding experience working with you. I also appreciate that during the moments when I was a bit overwhelmed, the workshops or your patient (and sometimes repeated) explanations were always available.

I have only scratched the surface of the training site but it is fabulous. If nothing else, the path index is worth its weight in gold. I so appreciate your professional support and helping me be more effective at my job. THANK YOU ALL for your efforts.

Amit, I want to thank you for the helpful and accomodating people that you superivse in the Faculty Resource Center. Leslie Heber, especially, has helped me to learn and use SoftChalk. I have incorporated into my "Notes on Lectures"[on my Web Enhanced site] most of the features offered: pop-ups, crossword puzzles, ordering, labels, etc.
These features were fun to create, and the students state that they are helpful in learning data that I make use of on tests.
SInce building a Web site for my History courses, I have had renewed interest in the teaching process. My students have found that the Web site truly enhances instruction!

Thanks to everyone who has helped me, supported me...in getting my online class up this semester. It has been a journey and one I would not have been able to do without your gracious and thoughful help.

Web-enhancing my courses has made me a better instructor. It allowed me to reorganize and update my classes, integrating Web activities with traditional course content, as well as taking advantage of the incredible research possibilities of the Web. I would encourage everyone to try it. The staff at the ITDC are great. They return messages immediately and there's always someone in the Faculty Resources Center to answer questions. I admit I was dreading this, but they made my experience a good one.

The courseware added new dimension to my teaching. Students have told me repeatedly how exciting and engaging the courseware programs have been and how much they wish other instructors would develop and integrate these innovative learning strategies into their curriculum.

I cannot believe how easy it was to create my course web site.

My students love the self-assessments. If I do not have one ready for the next chapter in the book, they immediately complain.

I am now able to do many things on the web that I had not thought of... I enjoyed this workshop because I was able to work and learn at the same time.

Thanks for being my "gadfly" - as Socrates called the teachers who could sting you into action.

I was a bit uncomfortable with computers in general before I took your workshop. Now, I am editing my course web page weekly, sending email to my students to work on their own!

• I have consistently received much better written Art assignments after students used the courseware I have designed with the team at the ITDC. The courseware really helps me run the class because I am able to integrate portions of it during class and other portions are learned by students at their own time.
• This workshop was an enlightening, invigorating and thought-provoking experience, which led to the complete design of my online course. I am excited about teaching this semester.
• My students feel more confident and secure about their assignments. They feel they have someplace to go that is private to practice their assignments.
• My students can now explore new materials. They LOVE going to other web sites. My course page really enriches their class room experience. It covers stuff I do not have time to cover in class.

Now I have a tool that allows students to practice writing document research pages. Students are engaged by it--because its fun! It gives them hands-on activities that a text book would never offer.

Thank you for encouraging me during the development stage of my online course. You can use me as one of your "success stories" at your own future workshops. Without your encouragement, I would have never kept at it. In the first 2-3 hours - it seems impossible - just too much to learn, but one step at a time, it becomes managable.

• I often accomplish twice as much at the ITDC resource center than when I am working independently on my own computer.
• The ITDC is like a well oiled machine, fine tuned for the production of web enhancement courses, multimedia lessons and interactive practices. At the ITDC, I have found help always available and equipment that runs smoothly for a variety of technological needs.

ITDC workshops have helped me think outside the box in how I approach teaching and helping students learn.
